Something More!

November 6 – December 5

Opening Reception – Saturday, November 7, 4 – 6 pm

Ten years ago 5 artists showed at the Wedeman Gallery in an exhibition entitled Is This Something? curated by Janet Kawada.  These artists practices reflected a variety of mediums that were not seen as traditional arts.  Today we bring these artists back to you with a show Something More!

These 5 artists continue to look at the world and make sense of it through their respective mediums and art practices.  While over the last ten years the materials that they incorporate into their art practice have become more commonplace in art making this exhibition continues to demonstrate the strength of these 5 artists.

Through the blending of cyanotypes with painting of Gail Erwin, the paper pulp combined with laser printing of Deb Klotz, the practice of craft with community from Samantha Fields, the combination of technique and materials from Janet Kawada or the intersection of photography and drawing of Hilary Tolan, the gallery is filled with art that connects with the viewer.

The premise from the last show still holds sway.  We walk down the street, looking around and we see something and pause.  Is this something?  Sitting in our studio, looking at the collections on our table.  Is this something?  An image appears on paper and we work to bring it into focus.  Is this something?  We engage in community action and listen to others bringing process and material to life.  Is this something?

Ten years have passed, the work has evolved.  If anything, it feels even more relevant. Each artist continued to grow, and the work has grown with them. As you spend time with the exhibition, with perseverance and imagination, consider where in the conversation you can fit.
